I finished this quilt months ago, but never did show the final product. I made this quilt for my father. I was inspired one day when reading JulieKQuilts and seeing her "header quilt." After learning the quilt pattern, designed by Evelyn Sloppy, came from her Strips and Strings book, I got to work! This was one of my favorite string patterns EVER!
The quilting was very simple in this quilt. I used a walking foot and did a lot of stitch in the ditch quilting.
Here is the back. It was a huge stash buster! It is so nice to make such a gorgeous quilt out of "ugly" fabric.
Hopefully I will catch up on more posts soon. I am feeling stressed after taking a comprehensive exam, so something quilty will surely cheer me up!

Blessings keep coming
No sewing this week. I am preparing for comprehensive exams next Friday and Saturday and this holds priority! I will get to sew again (finally) over Easter break when I have some time off. I can't wait. I have Carl's quilt to quilt, and Orca Bay awaiting me. Until then I have more exciting news! This year has been a year of triumphs....
Guess who is now a certified Therapy Dog????

Me! The one on the right! My Mama (pictured above on the left) is so proud. My sister, Misty Bleu (below) passed the test too!
I can't wait to make it official when we receive the special Therapy Dog International Bandanna to wear! So excited for the future!

Aside from no new sewing this week....
I wanted to announce that I have been accepted into a PsyD Clinical Pyschology program beginning this fall! If I could do a cartwheel without risking injury to others, I would!
Happy Quilting!

One year and nine months later....
I have a quilt!!!
I started this journey in July 2010. I cannot remember where the main inspiration came from, but I do remember looking at Bonnie Hunter's Hexagon quilt and thinking it was time to start one!
I started this journey in July 2010. I cannot remember where the main inspiration came from, but I do remember looking at Bonnie Hunter's Hexagon quilt and thinking it was time to start one!
I spent many hours sitting just like this using a borrowed Hinterburg frame. The hoop was 29" and too big for me to work with, but the weight of the quilt itself made it hang taut enough for me to work quite well. I would just drape it and get to work!
Many, many, many hours later, here it is! This was a really rewarding journey to say the least. I look forward to more hand piecing projects in my future!
Stash Report, Week 11, 2012
I finally used some fabric this week! I had a few yards of a nice flannel fabric purchased at a Christmas Joann Fabric sale, so I used that up for the back of Carl's t-shirt quilt. I hope to start on that next weekend. Also, I am less than 2 feet of binding from finishing the GFG! I will be posting pictures soon!
I am sad to say I am about to return my borrowed Hinterburg quilting frame. I wasn't a huge fan of the 29 inch frame, but I did like having it around. I will have to look at other options for hoops or frames to get those big quilts finished. Next up? Charlotte's Baskets!
In less than one week, I should find out if I am accepted into the PsyD program. I will soon be posting about that too!

Working on those UFOs!
Another week has passed! I am on vacation from school and using that time to catch up on my WIPs! Can you believe this is all I have left on my GFG?!?!? (Insert maniacal laughter) I hope to finish it within a week!
Seen this before? This is the last of three I have made. I get so bored doing the same thing over and over again, but I am going to push through and finish. Today I finished the applique and blanket stitching, and now have it ready for quilting.
Now for the stash report. Once the GFG is finished, I will finally be able to count some yardage for the binding. I can't start Carl's Quilt until I get some batting.

Today is brought to you by the letter....
B! B as in baby niece!
Here she is on her new quilt! What a tiny little thing she is! She is about 3 weeks old now.

In other news, I am on spring break. I hope to catch up on some of my WIPs! Today, I finished one more of the wooden bear July minis. I now have two out of three done! The third one is in an earlier state of completion so I have some catching up to do! I also took a naptime's worth of handquilting time today too with my GFG!
Happy Quilting!
